Cheshire and Warrington to be Fast Tracked for Devolution

Cheshire and Warrington have been selected for the government's priority devolution plans, bringing new powers, funding, and the region’s first elected mayor.

CWIP is ensuring the sector remains a priority as this work progresses and Gary Cliffe, CEO of Cheshire West Voluntary Action, is our representative on Cheshire & Warrington Leaders Board, where devolution is discussed with local authority leaders and partners.

Gary highlights the crucial role of over 8,000 non-profit organisations in the region. Together, these groups contribute over £400 million to the local economy, employing 14,000 staff and supported by 150,000 volunteers:

It’s a very important and exciting time for our communities including those voluntary, community, faith and social enterprises who support the economy and support individuals who experience inequalities in health and accessing opportunities. We look forward to our continued conversations and a seat at the table when investment in our communities is being discussed.
